Administration Manager Receives the UF Health Cancer Center Research Staffer of the Year Award

Kari Bastow University of Florida Radiation Oncology ResearchKari Bastow, Radiation Oncology Research Administration Manager, received the 2018 Research Staffer of the Year Award on January 9, 2019.

Kari coordinates the administrative efforts for all grants submissions, research agreements, and clinical trial budget negations. The award recognized her extraordinary contributions to UF Cancer Center research successes.

“Through her efforts, the department was able to submit 22 grants in the last fiscal year alone, speaking to Kari’s immense productivity and positive work attitude,” said Jessica Kirwan, MA, Assistant Director of Research. “Her excellent post-award management for some of the more complex awards and the depth and breadth of her knowledge of university fiscal policies is rare and highly valued by the faculty of the department, which is why they entrust her with large multi-institutional projects.”

“This past year, the Department obtained a record level of extramural funding, including major NCI and PCORI awards,” remarked Nancy P. Mendenhall, MD, Associate Chair, Department of Radiation Oncology, and Medical Director of the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute. “Those of us who are involved credit a great deal of our success to the amazing skill and dedication of the grants team, which includes, prominently, Kari Bastow.”
