Salary and Benefits

Physics residents are recognized by the College of Medicine as ‘housestaff’ and benefits such as health insurance and paid sick leave are available. Each resident receives an annual stipend.

Residents are also reimbursed for their hotel stay during their rotation to UFHPTI. The department supports one meeting attendance by our residents during their two-year residency. Each resident is given a yearly contract (renewable on anniversary date) that outlines the responsibilities and general expectations of the resident.

Stipend

UF Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Residents are recognized by the UF College of Medicine (COM) as “housestaff” and receive the same level of stipend and benefits as the medical residents. Please refer to this stipend page for additional information regarding stipend levels (for example, 2025-2026 annual medical physics resident salaries are $67,177 for PGY1 and $69,444 for PGY2).

Leave allocations

  • Vacation – Housestaff will be provided 15 vacation days per contract year. Vacation time does not accrue from year to year and there is no provision of compensation in lieu of time off. Vacation time does not carry forward, although exceptions may be made on an individual basis when specifically allowed by the program’s certification board and approved in advance by the Program Director.
  • Sick leave – Housestaff will be provided 10 sick days per contract year. Sick time does not accrue from year to year and there is no provision of compensation in lieu of time off.
  • Parental/Medical leave – Housestaff may be provided up to 30 consecutive days (6 weeks) of paid leave in a rolling 12-month period. Parental/Medical Leave time does not accrue from year to year and there is no provision to compensation in lieu of time off.

  • The UF Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Residency program adheres to the 40-day limit as specified in the CAMPEP residency standards.

Health coverage

Comprehensive health coverage is provided to the residents at no cost. Dependent health coverage, supplemental life, dental, and vision plan insurance are available for both the resident and his/her dependents.

Conference attendance

The department fully supports one national meeting attendance (e.g., AAPM or ASTRO) by our residents during their two-year residency.
