UF College of Medicine Officially Launches National Search for Department Chair

UF College of Medicine Officially Launches National Search for Department Chair.

The University of Florida College of Medicine has officially launched a national search for the next Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, marking an important step in shaping the future of one of the country’s leading academic radiation oncology programs.

Dr. Rashmin Savani, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, and Dr. Shireen Madani Sims, Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, serve as Co-Chairs of the Search Committee. Both are based in Gainesville and bring extensive leadership experience within UF Health to guide the process.

The search formally began with a kickoff meeting involving the Interim Dean and executive search firm Spencer Stuart, which has been retained to support the recruitment. Representatives from Spencer Stuart recently conducted on-site visits, meeting with faculty and stakeholders to gather input on departmental strengths, opportunities, and priorities for the next Chair.

Faculty, staff, and stakeholders have been asked contribute feedback to inform the search. A dedicated survey has been created to collect additional perspectives and nominations, including self-nominations for the role.

The position, formally titled Chair of The Alan H. Porter, MD, & Claudia B. Porter, RN, Department of Radiation Oncology, represents a significant leadership opportunity within a nationally recognized program. The department spans both Gainesville and Jacksonville campuses and plays a central role in advancing patient care, research, and education across UF Health. It is closely aligned with the UF Health Cancer Institute and benefits from a strong infrastructure supporting clinical innovation, translational research, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

The department seeks a nationally recognized physician leader with a track record of academic achievement, program development, and collaborative leadership across complex health systems. The Chair will report to the Dean of the College of Medicine and will be responsible for leading the department’s strategic vision, including growth in clinical programs, expansion of research initiatives, and continued excellence in education and training.

Applications, nominations, and expressions of interest are now being accepted, with review beginning immediately. Input is welcomed, and interested parties may submit applications, nominations, and all thoughts or feedback on the search to UFRadOncChair@SpencerStuart.com.

Indication of interest is encouraged by May 31, 2026.
