UF Radiation Oncologists to Present Latest Research at the 2022 ASTRO Meeting

UF Presenters at ASTROThe American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) will host its  64th Annual Meeting at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, October 23-26, 2022.

The theme of this year’s event is “AI & EI: Caring for the Patient in a Wireless World.” The meeting will feature 1,700 presenters and is expected to be attended by over 11,000 international radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, radiation oncology nurses and nurse practitioners, biologists, physician assistants, practice administrators, industry representatives and other health care professionals.

UF Radiation Oncology alumnus Tim R. Williams, MD, FASTRO (1987), will receive the 2022 ASTRO Gold Medal, ASTRO’s highest honor, on Tuesday, October 25, during the Annual Meeting Awards Ceremony. The Gold Medal recognizes leaders who have contributed to the field through clinical patient care, research, teaching, mentorship and service. Dr. Williams has been a board-certified radiation oncologist for more than 30 years, and is also the Medical Director of South Florida Proton Therapy Institute (SFPTI).

Special sessions during this year’s meeting include roundups of cancer breakthroughs from the past year; educational sessions focused on diversity, equity and inclusion; and storytelling sessions with special topics such as patient safety, rural health care and virtual education.

In addition, the University of Florida Department of Radiation Oncology will host its annual ASTRO Alumni and Friends Reception (invitation only) on Monday, October 24, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., at Rio Rio Cantina.
