Nancy Mendenhall, MD, and Ronald Chen, MD, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, were awarded $11.9 million to directly compare the potential benefits and harms of proton therapy to standard radiation therapy when treating prostate cancer.
Dr. Mendenhall is the medical director of the University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute and professor and associate chair in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Florida.
