University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute Expansion

The University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute (UFHPTI) has announced plans for a $39 million expansion. The expansion will include system upgrades and plans to increase the number of cancer patients and types of cancer UFHPTI is able to treat.

UFHPTI has signed several agreements with the following groups:

Phase one of the expansions includes upgrades to the original system, adding rolling floors under treatment tables in two of the gantries, and a new imaging system and new treatment planning system. Phase two will involve the design, construction, and installation of the single-room proton therapy system. Finally, phase three will encompass retrofitting one treatment gantry with a dedicated pencil-beam scanning nozzle and adding cone-beam computed tomography to all three existing gantries.
