Student Elective Rotation/Externships

If you wish, you may arrange for a student externship/elective rotation in our department. A visiting student may not replace a University of Florida student in any given course. For this reason, no visiting student will be accepted for an elective at the University of Florida until Florida students have made their elective choices. This process is usually completed by May 31st of the year before that student’s graduation. We will do as much as possible to try to ensure that everyone from other institutions who wants to rotate through our department gets the opportunity.

Visiting students must be a fourth-year student in good standing at a medical school that is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and a member or an affiliated member of the Association of American Medical Colleges.  In addition, they must have the permission of their academic dean to take an extramural course outside the institution in which they are enrolled.

Go to our online senior elective catalog. From this site you can print an Externship Application form and an Immunization Form. The course description is listed under “Department of Radiation Oncology.” Complete and submit both forms to

You must have a University of Florida film badge during your visit. Request an application form and submit to Patricia Thomas in the Radiation Oncology Department. You will have to provide your Social Security number, date of birth, sex, and starting and ending dates of your visit.
